I...don't know. To be honest, we haven't seen a vet yet, but one of Shade's co-workers has training as a veterinary technician, plus has worked at wildlife rehabilitation centres and has experience removing casts, so we had her examine the splint, because a) we were working on the not-unreasonable assumption that the leg would be fine since it's a simple break with ample time to heal* and b) the vet wanted to charge through the nose for the same procedure. She rebandaged the leg and Shade will make a vet appointment on Monday.

And yeah, we're considering the various options to compensate for her newfound handicap.


*It's kind of like removing stitches for a minor surgery, only to find last-minute that septicemia has set in; e.g., while not totally out of the realm of possibility, it was the absolute last thing we expected. She'd had a compound fracture last year that healed fine, and now she has to lose her leg for a comparitively minor break? Unfair, man. Unfair.
