Current mood: i hate you, world.

Sad fan is sad.
So I found the third series of Primeval on YouTube, watched a couple episodes, and was getting all squeeful and renewing my fannishness...then I found out that the show has been cancelled. WTF? It was supposed to last four series! They really couldn't squeeze out another ten episodes or so?

Witchblade, Firefly, The Dresden Files, Pushing Daisies...now Primeval. DAMMIT TELEVISION, QUIT BREAKING MY HEART.

...oh God, my mother is going to shit bricks. She is in love with this show.

ETA: It ends on a CLIFFHANGER? FUCK THAT NOISE.

Yeah, it's official. I was already kinda depressed about a development on the show that I can't describe in detail because it's a major spoiler, and now we don't even get a resolution? At least there will be DVDs.

Apparently it got too expensive to produce (understandable, given the FX), and the folks at ITV are cheap bastards looking to wring every penny out of their investments, so off it went. The frustrating thing is that they had promised everything would be wrapped up in the fourth series, all the questions would be answered, plotlines resolved, etc. etc....and now just, POOF, gone.

The final twist of irony is that there's talk of an American spin-off (same premise, only in the States), possibly even a major motion picture. Sure, cancel the original only to immediately prop up a replacement (a replacement totally lacking in hot British accents, and doubtless more expensive to boot). I don't even know what these people are on.

Thing is, watching (what was apparently the last episode of Series 3) two weeks ago, that last episode really left you without the desired closure, like there was one episode left to go. I think everything could be put to a decent ending with a two-hour special/movie, things being as they stand.

Edit

The first sentence should read: Thing is, watching (what was apparently) the last...

I'm still working my way through episodes on YouTube (just finished the third one, and...yeah. NOT HAPPY).

And yeah, they could neatly tie up some loose plot threads in a TV movie (or even a feature film, a la Serenity)...but it looks like they're choosing to start from scratch in the U.S. Why, I have no idea, but there you have it. Even ridiculously phenomenal DVD sales would likely not result in resurrecting the show...it just would further justify a niche for the spin-off

I dunno, I've just had too many shows dump me to place much faith in the latest to disappear. Also I took my meds and the world is spinny and I may not be making a whole lot of sense right now. If that makes sense.

I’ve been watching Season 3 on BBC America (Sci-fi channel still hasn’t got the third season) I’ve seen up to episode 5 so far. That is really sad the show is going to be cancelled, especially with the knowledge it will be a cliff hanger. Hopefully they’ll do something like Firefly did and have a movie to wrap things up. And I agree, an American made Primeval series just doesn’t hold the same appeal as the British version, the special effects were mediocre, that’s not why I watched the show, it was because of the British-ness that I watched the show!

They pretty much resolved the main story arc but I should stop there as you haven't seen the remaining episodes. I figure they could end the series with one or two episodes at most. So a two-hour special is certainly a possibility to consider. And that's the thing, British shows are well... British.

I kinda lurked over to your LJ and read you're getting an iPhone 3GS. I just downloaded the new 3.0 OS for my (nearly nine-month old) iPhone 3G and I can tell you I'm really, really happy now that they've finally fixed a lot of the shortcomings. MMS capability, copy and paste, text message forwarding, individual message deletion - all of which should've been there in the first place. So congratulations on your new toy.
